Initially I was going to do a sister painting to my "Lipstick Redoute".... but with Autumn well and truly here and Winter approaching.... and Lipstick is such a loud and rather camp painting... I felt that my mood was more melancholy.
"Ashes of roses".... is influenced by the botanical artist Redoute. {my ongoing influence....you will know if you follow my blog regularly} I have used the engraving style combined with a watercolour tint. I shall also incorporate a decorative element, using inspiration from Kashmir shawls....... however I may simplify these a little.......... Still work in progress....... I hope to finish in the next few days....... then you can take a look at the finished painting.
Third stage using the tints over the linework...... mixed with lots of black for that Ashes look.
Second stage........ painting the linework with black ...
First stage...... Gathering the Inspiration..... Redoute and Kashmir.....sketching out the overall shapes..... I shall use Acrylic on board
Generally I sketch quite a basic shape as I prefer to draw with the brush......
I just measure for the decorative bit.... after I have primed the board.....
Diane, this is stunning, thanks for sharing.

Thanks Alison.
ReplyDeleteSound wonderful. Here in Canada there is a renewed interest in Victorian romanticism so this might be the ideal time for such a collection. Good Luck.
ReplyDeleteCall me crazy but I like the work unfinished with the sketches and the painted roses. I think it would make wonderful fabric or even a rug. P.S. hope you don't mind I pinned it (http://pinterest.com/pin/16044142392473752/)
